What it is

Minor Procedures at Flourish

A number of small procedures can be done at the practice rather than sending you to hospital or a specialist, usually in a single appointment.

  • Removal of skin lesions and biopsies
  • Wound care and dressings
  • Removal of sutures (stitches)
  • Contraceptive implant insertion and removal
  • Ear syringing (a private service with a fee, not covered by Medicare)

What happens

What to expect

01

An assessment first

Most procedures start with a normal consultation so your GP can look and advise.

02

Booked separately

The procedure itself is usually booked as its own longer appointment.

03

On the day

Local anaesthetic is used where needed. Your GP will explain each step as it happens.

04

Aftercare

You will get written aftercare instructions and a follow-up appointment if one is needed.

Common questions

Common questions

Local anaesthetic is used for procedures that would otherwise be uncomfortable. Tell your GP if you are anxious about it — there is usually something we can do.

Most consultations and procedures are bulk billed where Medicare covers them. Ear syringing is the exception: it is a private service that Medicare does not cover and a fee applies to both the appointment and the procedure. Reception will confirm it when you book. If a lesion is sent to pathology, that laboratory bills separately — your GP will tell you beforehand.

It depends on the procedure and the site. Your GP will tell you what to expect and what to avoid before you leave.

Not all. Some are better managed by a dermatologist or surgeon and your GP will refer you if that is the case.
